Norwegian pages

Welcome to my pages on this island

Sørland (Southland) at Værøy (Vaeroey) seen from the slope up to "NATO" (the mountain "Haaen").  In the background you have the ferry terminal on the right side of the bay (the inlet where all the houses are).  On the other side of the bay you have the heli-port for transportation to Bodø.  The road you see stretching towards you is the road you will have to come to walk to Nato.  You may park your car at the buildings at the end of the road.  To the right of these buildings there are 2 roads:  One leads down to "Sørlandshagen" (Southland pasture) and the closest road towards you, is the military road up to where you are standing. The mountaintop to the right (close up) is called Tverrfjellet (Cross mountain) and the one behind it is called "Varan" and the tall one behind; "Tinden".  The area between Varan and the bay to the east (left in the photo) is called "Pun Varan" (Under Varan).  The term "pun" is local and not used elsewhere. There is more information on Værøy from this link.

The information on the Norwegian pages will eventually be translated to English, - sometimes in the future.  Actual demand by e-mail, - may enforce some faster "footwork"...

If you arrive on the island in a car with a diesel engine you should bring an extra jerry can.  The island has only refilling for petrol 95 octane by the use of a creditcard.  The petrol price is high due to transport costs.

There are pumps on the island for diesel, - and one of them is located close to the old Steamer Key (Dampskipskaja).  To fill diesel you will have to call this number; ;  +47 90621631 (Terje Andreassen) and pay in cash.
